A couple of years ago my wife and I were in the Black Hills on a 2 day camping excursion on our way out Yellowstone. While we were in town getting supplies at Walmart it happened to be close to lunch time and I was in the mood for something I different that I hadn’t eaten in awhile. As we were pulling out of the parking lot I happened to see Philly Ted’s Cheesesteaks (“Just Like Philly”) and I knew I’d found just what I was looking for.
Upon entering I immediately knew that I was in for a real authentic cheesesteak, but after looking at the menu the next dilemma was what to actually order with so many different choices available. They’ve got a very unique menu with your standard steak sandwiches, but then there are also around 18 specialty sandwiches available all named after popular NFL teams. Here is an example of a couple of options (The Steeler – Cheesesteak with french fries and coleslaw) (The Raider – Steak, Pepperjack Cheese, Jalepenos, and Garlic). It’s also important to note that they’ve got more than just cheesesteaks available to order, you’ll find cold subs, italian beef sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and even east coast style wings. If you get a moment you can view their full menu online here.
After seeing The Raider on the menu I immediately knew that was going to be my choice, so I settled on that and some cheese tots. I’ve never been to Philadelphia, but after one bite I can honestly say this is what an authentic philly cheesesteak should taste like. It was the best I’ve ever yet find another one that comes close to comparing to it. I only wish I had the opportunity to try more items on the menu, but by the time I was done I was stuffed with enough philly goodness to last me for awhile. The next time I’m in the area though it’s definitely on the agenda for another stop to try some of the other fantastic options on the menu!
If you’re in the Black Hills area, stop in for lunch or dinner and see why they were voted “Best Sandwich in the Black Hills” by The Rapid City Journal. They now have two locations in the area, the original in Rapid City and also one located in Spearfish as well and I can promise that you won’t be disappointed!
